New York, NY – Americans are honoring the 25th Anniversary of the September 11 attacks, reminiscing about the shock, the dead, and the sweeping event of the al-Qaeda attacks on symbols of U.S. power and abundance.

Police Officer Casey Kloepfer, 29, arranged to go to the Brooklyn Station House, where his father, Officer Ronald Kloepfer, reported to work that day before heading to the World Trade Center. Unfortunately, he did not come home.
Casey Kloepfer was only four years old; however, he grew up learning about his father’s commitment to supporting people and to a job that empowered him. He became an officer early this year. He is proud to wear his father’s badge number and recently played on the New York Police Department lacrosse team his father established.
"It's big footsteps to fill, but it's definitely something that I take very seriously and want to continue to honor him and be the best police officer I can," said Kloepfer.
Although there are no political speeches at the New York commemoration, relatives reviewed the victims’ names. For the first time in 25 years, they extended the ceremony for another moment of silence for people who died of 9/11-related illnesses. Questions will continue to be investigated on how people developed health issues related to the dust.
The U.S.-led global war on terrorism, including the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan – “the latter Washington's longest war— and detentions and harsh interrogation of terror suspects in an international network of secret CIA prisons. The U.S. military found and killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in 2011, but accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed still awaits a trial 23 years after his capture.”
The attacks made a huge adjustment to U.S. air travel, created new federal surveillance and intelligence-gathering programs, and banking regulations, generating ongoing debate about the balance between security and freedom. The Department of Homeland Security, many state anti-terrorism laws, and billions of dollars in state and local counterterrorism funding defined the entire post-9/11 era.
September 11 heightened the significance of patriotism among Americans who participate in the Military, fire departments, police forces, or public agencies. In the midst of the crisis, the services and the national unity that many people would not forget that day. However, the terrorist attacks expanded mistrust, prejudice, and hate crimes that directs to Muslims.
For over 25 years, Muslim-Americans have played a major role in the public eye, from state house senates to Congress to New York City Hall, where Zohran Mamdani is the New York’s first Muslim mayor, is part of the Muslim Community. He faced criticism for making a plan to participate in the 9/11 ceremony at the World Trade Center.
According to Spectrum News, “Mamdani, a Democrat, said earlier this week that he loves the city and country and wants the anniversary to focus on victims' families, first responders, and New Yorkers who helped one another after the attacks, which he called a ‘horrific act of terror.’ The 34-year-old mayor was an elementary school student in New York on 9/11.”
