China has sharply condemned Israel’s recent military strikes on Iran, calling the attacks a violation of Iranian sovereignty and a threat to regional peace and stability. The comments came during a United Nations Security Council meeting on the Middle East held Friday, as tensions escalated dramatically between the two nations.
“China condemns Israel's violations of Iran's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity and urges Israel to immediately stop all risky military actions,” said China’s Ambassador to the UN, Fu Cong, according to state-run Xinhua News Agency.
Ambassador Fu expressed Beijing’s deep concern over what it called the intensification of regional contradictions and the potential expansion of armed conflict. He warned that continued military escalation could seriously undermine diplomatic efforts, particularly those related to the Iranian nuclear issue.
The remarks came hours after Israel launched a large-scale aerial assault targeting Iranian military infrastructure, stating the operation was aimed at preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons capabilities. In response, Iran launched retaliatory airstrikes late Friday, with explosions reported in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
“China opposes the intensification of contradictions and the expansion of conflicts, and is deeply concerned about the consequences that may be brought about by Israel's actions,” Fu told the Security Council.
The developments mark one of the most serious escalations between the two longtime adversaries in recent years, raising alarms globally about the risk of a broader regional war. The United Nations called for restraint from all parties and renewed appeals for diplomatic dialogue.
China, a key participant in previous negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, reiterated its support for a peaceful resolution to the dispute and called for the revival of multilateral talks under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In light of the volatile situation, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued urgent advisories to its citizens in both Israel and Iran. Chinese nationals in Israel were specifically warned to remain alert and prepare for the possibility of missile and drone attacks.
As of Saturday, no casualties among Chinese citizens have been reported in either country.
