The Trump Administration announced the Fuel Optimization conventional, addressing the adjustment would reduce new car prices by roughly $1,300. Critics, however, warn of potential trade-offs, including higher gas consumption and increased pollution.
President Donald Trump expressed the new conventional as a strategy to “take the waste out of building cars in America."
The administration is rolling back the Biden-era rules that focused on upgrading the average fuel economy of new cars and light trucks to 50.4 miles per gallon by the 2031 model year. Under the new rules, that target decreased to 34.9 miles per gallon.

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a group symbolizing major automakers, helps the rollbacks, calling the previous rule “out of step with market conditions and consumer demand", and explaining the new rule as an "appropriate course correction."
Critics, however, the underline of possible disadvantages.
Sean Tucker of Kelley Blue Book doubted the administration’s cost-saving claims, when he was asked if the promising of the savings became realistic.
“It is not. This change, there's a lot of theater behind this,” said Tucker.
Tucker expressed about the automakers takes about five years to create a car from scratch, meaning adjusting in Washington may not automatically affect dealership inventories. He distinguished that the Trump administration paused upholding the previous fuel optimization conventional in the previous year.
“So rewriting the rule that you don't enforce has pretty limited impact,” said Tucker.

The move obtained by environmental groups, who the rule would add more climate changes effecting emissions, and pollution.
Additionally, less fuel-efficient cars are eligible to use more gas – at a time when Americans could paying more at the pump.
Dan Becker, director of the Safe Climate Transport Campaign made a statement.
“What Trump is doing is killing the biggest single step any country has ever taken to cut global warming pollution, save gas and save money at the gas pump,” said Becker.
According to AAA, the national average for regular gas is recently $4.48 per gallon, up almost 40 cents from a month ago, and higher than a year ago.
Kelley Blue Book renowned that while gas prices are a apprehension, the biggest expense of car ownership is the defamation of the vehicle over time, along with the initial purchase price.
