Worcester, Massachusetts – In May 2020, Colonial Bowling on Mill Street announced that they would automatically be closed for business on their terms. The COVID-19 Pandemic just led to one of multiple factors the entire contributing to the completion of Worcester’s final candlepin bowling alley. Paul Wambach, the Colonial Bowling’s General Manager, addressed the issue at that time.

"It's just so unpredictable what's going to happen come the fall, and that's when we have our league season start in September," said Wambach."We weren't able to get our summer league going this summer. So, we're completely shut down. We've been shut down since the middle of March."

Five years after this month’s interview, the game has developed its long-awaited comeback to Worcester. Ryan Majors explained that it became gigantic, and there was a lot of speculation across the Worcester community.

“It has been huge,” said Majors. “There’s been so much whispers around town about it. It’s taken in with open arms throughout the city.”

American Flatbread has recently become the home to 10 of their candlepin lanes, making a tribute to the game and the legacy across the history of New England. It all started in Worcester back in 1880 on Pearl Street. Majors reported that providing candlepin back did not become an easy task.

“They haven't built any new equipment in decades," said Majors. So everything that we have from the lane floors to the machinery in the back is all pulled from old lanes that have been shut down and refurbished and cleaned up."

Majors reported that the Space goes above and beyond just food, as they seem to look to lead its institution in the public area.

“The space does it so well, and does it justice that we almost kind of have two entities here,” said Majors. “We have a fantastic restaurant upstairs and, you know, candlepin downstairs. It’s such a family-friendly atmosphere.”

You do not necessarily have to visit the restaurant to bowl. Lans would be open for an hourly rate. Events and league bowling could be approximately decreased on the road.
