Boston Logan Airport Remote Screening Program Running at the Second Location

Boston, Massachusetts – Boston Logan International Airport is running a brand-new program that allows travelers to pass through security screening at remote terminal miles, from the airport, board a shuttle bus to the airport, and head to the right of the gate.
About 25,000 passengers have joined since the Massachusetts Port Authority started piloting the program in June at the Logan Remote Terminal in Framingham.
Demand was sufficiently high that the agency is running the Framingham pilot through March 2027. Soon, travelers arriving from south of Boston would participate in the same benefits.
Authorities broke ground on another remote terminal in Braintree, alongside with two multilevel parking garages.
The site currently provides parking for up to 1,800 passengers taking the Logan Express, a shuttle to the airport. When construction is complete, the site would accommodate 5,000 vehicles and allow Massport to continue expanding the Logan Express from Braintree along the new remote terminal.
The remote terminal program is becoming the first of its kind in the United States, according to Massport.
For $9, passengers could park at a remote terminal and pass through the TSA security line – the same as if they went through a security checkpoint at the airport itself. Passengers then board a secure bus and are dropped off at Logan at the security checkpoint.
Massport CEO Rich Davey expressed excitement about this good news.
“We couldn’t be happier with the success of the Remote Terminal over the last two months,” said Davey. “Passengers have been loving the convenience of the service, not stressing about trying to drive into Boston and getting to ride on the airfield next to planes.”
Davey is expecting the Framingham program to continue in Early March.
Officials explained the program also reduced the volume of cars passing through Logan Airport. Interim Massachusetts Transportation Secretary Philip Eng shared a statement.
“This is about how we reimagine travel,” said Eng. “Making it less frustrating, making it easier.”
The program was only available to Delta and JetBlue Travelers between 5:30 am and 4 pm. Officials explained that they arranged to run more airlines and are working with the TSA to allow more security lanes earlier.
The Logan Express buses, which also depart from Back Bay, Danvers, and Woburn, carried over 2.7 million passengers in the previous year.
While the Framingham route became popular recently, last year, the Braintree route was overwhelmed during school vacation weeks and other peak travel periods.
Massport made a plan to add a pair of garages in Braintree; however, it decided to run the remote terminal program there as well after seeing the program’s success in Framingham. The first garage and remote terminal could open in approximately two to three years. The second garage would be finished about three years later.
During the construction, the Braintree parking lot would have reduced capacity. Some passengers would need to park at the Quincy Adams station in Quincy and take shuttle buses to the Logan Express.
