Lagos, Nigeria – Recording Artist Tyla canceled her Lagos tour on the African leg of her A*POP World Tour due to online backlash and boycott calls. It was officially scheduled for December 22 as part of her international tour to promote her sophomore album, A*POP; it was recently removed from official ticketing platforms and her tour website.
The concert had been officially announced amid hot-topic debates on Social Media in Nigeria. A powerful campaign appeared, reporting xenophobic and threatening comments on Nigerians in South Africa.
Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse posted a video statement to organize his movement to cancel concerts if the situation continues. He expressed that it was heartless to stage a major commercial show while citizens deal with racial chaos in South Africa.
