Ukraine is asking its partner countries for help as winter gets closer. The country needs electricity, heating and money to keep basic services running. At a meeting in Brussels, European leaders expressed their support for President Volodymyr Zelensky. He explained that Ukraine also needs better protection against attacks that could damage its power stations.

US President Donald Trump criticized Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries, where crude oil is turned into fuels such as petrol and diesel. He said these attacks were keeping fuel prices high around the world. His comments showed a disagreement over Ukraine’s actions while European leaders were discussing further support for the country. The dispute adds another difficulty to efforts to bring the war to an end.

An arrangement meant to stop attacks on energy facilities has broken down.

Russian attacks have damaged Ukraine’s power network, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without electricity. Repairing the damage is urgent because people will need reliable heating during winter. Ukraine is therefore asking for both help with energy supplies and protection against further attacks.

For families living through the war, losing electricity can make even simple tasks difficult. People may struggle to heat their homes, prepare food or charge their phones to stay in touch with relatives. Children may also find it harder to study when there is no light or internet connection. These everyday needs help explain why protecting the power supply matters so much.

European governments are considering further help, but they do not all agree on how much money to provide. Some leaders want more financial support for Ukraine, while others want a clearer explanation of the costs. Zelensky has said that winter preparations must include energy supplies, money and protection from attacks. The next step is for governments to agree on support and make sure it reaches Ukraine in time.
