McDonald’s reported strong profits in its second quarter and announced a new headquarters for the U.S. market, with sales at home under pressure as many Americans grappled with the rising cost of living, which made them more mindful of other necessities.
Same-store sales, or sales at locations open at least a year, were up 0.8% in the U.S. That’s a quick slowdown from the 2.5% increase a year ago, when the company had an enormous win with a meal secured to “A Minecraft Movie”. International same-store sales rose 1.3%
CEO Chris Kempzinski reported on the company’s sales call that the United States performance was partially harmed by inconsistent marketing from the fast food restaurants that did meet the company’s criteria.
“We don’t have a strategy problem,” said Kempzinski. “We simply didn’t execute at the level we needed to in the second quarter.”
“Another issue was a pullback on the number of digital offers that customers received,” said Chief Financial Officer Ian Borden. “Without those offers, customers either bought less, or didn't buy at all. McDonald’s plans to address this by launching more digital offers nationally, starting next week. The company is also looking to send more personalized offers to its most loyal users,” Borden continued.
McDonald’s, like most food chains places is working on American consumers who would maintain a close eye on their wallets. In May, the company received a warning that high gas prices and consumer anxiety over the U.S. conflict with Iran would decrease its sales. The average price of gasoline peaked on May 21 at $4.56 per gallon, according to AAA.

McDonald’s pushed their menu and to attempt to allure budget-conscious customers to its restaurants through value meals and other specials. These menus could play an important role in being suitable for customers who are facing challenges with higher prices. In April, the company introduced an affordable McValue menu, which includes 10 items that cost less than $3.
According to Kempczinski, “about a year ago, McDonald's got a bit off target on value, and that its base menu pricing began running higher than its competitors in many places. The company has since worked to bring its prices below or closer to competitors on items ranging from burgers to drinks.”
For the three months completed June 30, the Chicago burger chain received $2.36 billion, or $3.32 per share. A year prior, it received $2.25 billion, or $3.14 per share. Eliminating one more charges and benefits, salary became $3.38 per share, dethrowning the $3.32 per share balloted by Factset.
Revenue reached to $7.1 billion from $6.84 in before a year period, however it arrived a short estimation of Wall Street at $7.13 billion. It decreased up to 2%.
McDonald’s Announced Skye Anderson is the President of McDonald’s USA.
