Worcester Police Department Found the Body of Karen Solomon

Worcester, Massachusetts — Monday afternoon (August 24), Worcester Police and Worcester County District Attorney’s Office announced that they found the body of Karen Solomon, who was responsible for murdering her husband, Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon. 

WPD Chief Paul Saucier provided details of the investigation during the Press Conference.

"Today, at approximately 12:49 hours, officers were dispatched to 189 May Street in reference to two people who worked at Fairlawn Rehab, observing a deceased body in the woods. Upon further examination, we believe this person to be Karen Solomon,” said Saucier. “In addition to, in the surrounding area, we did locate a handgun in the area of the body. Again, this is a preliminary identification. Forensically, this still needs to be vetted through the ME's (Medical Examiner) office, but we do believe it's her. In addition to that, we were searching these areas, doing concentric searches, and this area was going to be part of a further search. As you know, we concentrated in the Coes Pond area, and if you look at the distance between the last video of her getting into the water, that we released to the media to approximately 0.6 miles from that area." 

In relation to the domestic incident, Saucier continued with his statement.

“And I also want to come back to when we put out that this was a domestic incident that's based on Mass General Law,” said Saucier. “Any time there's a family or household household member it constitutes a domestic. As far as for crimes at no time did the Solomon family have any history of domestic abuse. I want to make myself absolutely clear at this point that has nothing to do with this case. We believe this case is a tragic murder-suicide that occurred, and we still have plenty of work to do as far as wrapping up all the pieces to this.”

Saucier reviewed the letter on behalf of the Solomon family.

"The nightmare of the past week has left our family heartbroken and rudderless. The compassion, dedication, empathy of all agencies involved have given us light in face of darkness,” said Saucier. “The selflessness of those who have helped us weather the storm cannot be expressed in simple words. However, we, the members of the Solomon family, will try. We thank the Worcester Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, the Worcester and Holden Fire Departments, the Auburn Police and Fire Departments, the Quincy Police Department, the Scituate Police Department, the U.S. Marshal Service, Homeland Security Investigations Unit, U.S. Attorney's Office, and all the respective federal partners. You men and women have taken time out of your lives to help us finance us. If there ever will be any, you have given us comfort knowing that you are working on our behalf for us. God bless you all. For those in Massachusetts and throughout the world who have offered up prayers and sympathies, they have helped us through each minute of the day. Thank you for your basic human compassion. May God be with all of us." 

As the gunshot was close to Karen Solomon’s body, Saucier continued.

"It was not a service weapon, as I spoke about before. We are trying to determine who was the gun owner,” said Saucier. “Obviously, a police officer has a gun license, so he was probably the owner."
