Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has openly criticized a major spending bill backed by former President Donald Trump, calling it “a disgusting abomination” in a post on his social media platform, X. The legislation, officially titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” is currently under consideration in the U.S. Senate and has sparked controversy due to its extensive budget allocations and alleged pork-barrel spending.

Musk, known for his ventures with Tesla and SpaceX, took to X on June 3 to express his frustration. “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk wrote. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

The statement marks a significant shift in tone from Musk, who has previously aligned himself with several conservative figures, including Trump. In another post, Musk hinted at potential political retaliation, stating, “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”

The backlash was swift. House Speaker Mike Johnson responded on Tuesday, saying, “With all due respect, my friend Elon is terribly wrong about the One Big Beautiful Bill.” Johnson defended the bill, emphasizing its intended benefits and dismissing Musk’s criticism as misguided.

The unfolding rift has fueled speculation about the broader implications for Musk’s political ambitions and the evolving dynamics within the conservative movement. Political analysts note that the alliance between Musk and Trump was always tenuous, given both figures’ strong personalities and divergent long-term goals.

While Musk has secured significant federal contracts for his companies, his opposition to provisions that cut tax incentives for electric vehicles a cornerstone of Tesla’s business may have prompted the outspoken critique.

As the debate continues, the clash between two of America’s most polarizing billionaires highlights deeper divisions over fiscal policy, political influence, and the role of wealth in governance.
