Worcester, Massachusetts — A homeowner in Worcester had taken Halloween decorating to a whole new level: over 200 inflatables, and for the past four weeks of setup. It is protective to maintain Alex Cornwell's passion for arranging the holidays. However, he is not working on this project for fun; he explained that there is a cause near and dear to his heart behind it.

“We donate to Why Me, who helps kids with cancer,” said Cornwell. “So, when I was six months old, I was diagnosed with cancer and they helped my family. And I just want to give back.”

Black cats, witches, dragons. If you are interested in a character, there is a realistic possibility it would light up on Cornwell’s front lawn.

“It’s all about the kids,” said Cornwell. “I love seeing their faces, smiles, saying, ‘Oh my god, look at that one. That one’s huge. My favorite character is over there.’”

It all started in 2019. Cornwell bought the inflatables new and used from Facebook Marketplace, as well as sellers at the end of the year. His recent collection is approximately 207 inflatables.

“I go to every Lowe’s and Home Depot when they go 75% off in the entire pretty much state,” said Cornwell. “Takes me about eight hours for every store, because they’re all on different days. It’s a full-time job.”

“And for those curious about my electric bill,” said Cornwell. “It’s a lot. It’s actually cheaper than to run central air in July. But it’s close.”

Cornwell said that when November 1 arrives, all of his decorations would be collapsed. The breakdown process depends on the weather; however, it usually takes three to five days. If the inflatables are wet, he needs to dry them off at home before packing them up for the season.

It is a quick reconsideration; therefore, Cornwell automatically begins preparations for Christmas. He explained that his Christmas is even more enormous, with 275 inflatables.

Similar to Halloween, he explained that the community turnout for Christmas is great, and he is using it as a display.

“As long as I’m healthy and have time to do it,” said Cornwell.
