From bringing smiles to children and empowering students to directing award-winning films, her story is a call for youth to rise with purpose.

Bengaluru: At just 16, Shreelakshmi Bhat, popularly known as Babyshree, has created an inspiring identity as a social activist, young film director, actress, author, musician, athlete, and academic achiever. But at the heart of her journey stands one powerful quality — service. Her achievements are not limited to personal success; they extend into hospitals, schools, autism learning centres, ashrams, old age homes, environmental campaigns, and skill-development programs.

A Young Heart Dedicated to Social Service

Shreelakshmi Bhat has been actively involved in meaningful social service through various initiatives that support children, women, students, senior citizens, patients, underprivileged communities, and the environment. Her service journey reflects compassion, awareness, inclusion, and responsibility.

She is a trained Medical Clown performer, associated with several cancer hospitals, using the healing power of smiles, humour, and gentle interaction to bring comfort to patients, especially children undergoing treatment in cancer hospitals. Associated with several cancer care institutions and service initiatives, Shreelakshmi visits hospitals to create moments of happiness for young patients. With her innocent smile, expressive face, and compassionate presence, she helps children forget their pain for a while and experience joy, laughter, and emotional relief.

Her work also extends to children with autism and developmental disabilities. Shreelakshmi is associated with several autism learning centres, where she supports children through creative activities, patient guidance, and encouraging interaction. Her efforts help children improve basic learning skills, build confidence, and feel included with dignity and care.

She is also connected with various ashrams, where she teaches orphaned and underprivileged children by helping them read, write, and gain confidence through education. Along with this, she regularly visits old age homes, spending time with senior citizens and spreading the message of respect, empathy, and human connection.

A Voice for Women, Children, and Social Awareness

Adding to her inspiring service journey, Shreelakshmi serves as a brand representative for “Right to Be a Girl,” supporting causes related to women and child development, dignity, equality, safety, and social awareness. Through this role, she actively participates in programs that promote respect for girl children, awareness about child rights, and the importance of protecting women’s and children’s dignity in society.

She has conducted several social awareness programs in schools and educational institutions on important topics such as digital awareness, child development, girl safety, Good Touch and Bad Touch awareness, values, responsibility, equality, and social consciousness. Through these programs, she has educated and inspired more than one lakh students, creating awareness among young minds and encouraging them to become responsible citizens.

Environmental Service and Care for Nature

Shreelakshmi’s social service is not limited to people alone; it also extends toward nature and the environment. She has played a meaningful role in planting more than 8,000 saplings, encouraging students and communities to understand the importance of trees, greenery, and ecological balance.

Through various environmental awareness programs, she spreads the message that protecting nature is not only a responsibility but also a form of gratitude toward the planet. She has participated in initiatives related to tree plantation, water conservation, water crisis awareness, care for birds, and kindness toward animals.

She has also supported activities such as creating nests and water spaces for birds, especially during summer. These simple but powerful acts inspire children to respect nature, save water, plant trees, avoid waste, and protect the life around them.

Empowering Students and Communities Through Skill Training

Shreelakshmi has also worked toward self-reliance by conducting practical training sessions for economically underprivileged students. These programs help students learn useful, income-generating skills such as candle making, incense stick making, dhoop stick making, kumkum preparation, healthy juice ideas, and healthy food preparation.

The purpose of these training sessions is not only to teach skills, but also to build confidence, dignity, and financial independence. By learning such practical methods, students from weaker economic backgrounds can explore small business opportunities and take steps toward a self-reliant life.

She has also extended similar livelihood-based training programs to members of the transgender community, helping them learn skills with dignity and confidence. Through these initiatives, Shreelakshmi promotes inclusion, equality, and economic empowerment for communities that often face social and financial challenges.

From Social Service to Cinema: India’s Young Female Director

Alongside her social service, Shreelakshmi has also made a remarkable mark in cinema. She has earned recognition as one of India’s youngest female directors, with acknowledgements from the London Book of Records, Kalam Book of Records, India Book of Records, and Karnataka Book of Records.

She has directed five multilingual films — Prakrati, Srushti, Nadhanka, Siri, and Ruthu — and has taken complete creative responsibility for story, screenplay, dialogues, lyrics, and direction. Her films reflect her imagination, values, and emotional understanding. At such a young age, handling multiple creative roles in cinema makes her journey truly exceptional.

Her films have been screened and celebrated at several national and international film festivals, earning her more than 30 prestigious awards, including recognitions as Best Youth Director and Youngest Female Director in Cinema.

A Multi-Talented Young Achiever

Beyond service and direction, Shreelakshmi is also an actress, author, musician, athlete, and academic achiever. As a child artist, she has acted in 28 films and more than 4500 television episodes, earning several Best Child Artist awards. She is also stepping into literature with her inspirational books “ಯಶೋದಿಗಂತ” and “Student Key Success in Alphabets.”

She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, Yakshagana performer, and multi-instrumentalist who plays instruments such as the flute, sitar, tabla, veena, violin, pakhawaj, keyboard, guitar, and manjira. In academics, she has won numerous gold and silver medals in national Olympiads, and in sports, she has achieved recognition as a rifle and pistol shooter.

A Journey of Talent with Humanity

Shreelakshmi Bhat’s story is not only about awards, records, and achievements. It is a story of a young girl who understands that true success becomes meaningful when it is used to uplift others.

From bringing smiles to children in cancer hospitals to supporting children with autism, from educating students to empowering underprivileged communities, from planting thousands of saplings to creating awareness about women and child dignity, Shreelakshmi continues to prove that age is never a barrier to service.

At a young age, Shreelakshmi Bhat stands as a symbol of compassion, creativity, courage, and commitment — a young achiever whose social service leads her success story, and whose direction in cinema adds another powerful chapter to her inspiring journey.
