The 2026 Toyota bZ now with a simplified and appealing name marks a bold leap forward in Toyota’s all-electric lineup. Set to go on sale in the second half of 2025, this compact SUV redefines what buyers can expect from the Japanese automaker’s EV offerings.
While pricing and exact charging times are still under wraps, the new bZ promises notable enhancements over its predecessor, the bZ4X. With an upgraded powertrain, refined design elements, and improved range, it’s shaping up to be a strong contender in the competitive small electric SUV segment.
Why Consider the 2026 Toyota bZ?
First impressions matter, and the 2026 bZ no longer carries the design quirks of the earlier bZ4X. Featuring a sleeker profile, revised lighting, and a more mature color palette, the new bZ feels more like a finished product than a concept car in transition.
Under the hood or more accurately, beneath the floor are two available battery options: a 74.7 kWh and a 57.7 kWh lithium-ion pack. These support an estimated EPA range of up to 314 miles in the front-wheel-drive variant and 288 miles for the all-wheel-drive version. The base battery offers a respectable 236 miles of range for city-focused users.
Performance is another highlight. The dual-motor AWD variant delivers 338 horsepower, rocketing from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 4.9 seconds. Those opting for FWD can still expect a smooth ride, reaching 60 mph in about 8 seconds.
Charging capabilities include support for up to 150 kW DC fast charging and 11 kW AC home charging, although full charge times are still to be announced.
Interior Comfort and Versatility
The bZ AWD Limited model tested featured a modern, upscale cabin with soft-touch materials, roomy seating for five, and generous cargo space—27.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats (25.8 cu. ft. with JBL audio system installed). With 94.4 cubic feet of passenger volume and an elevated 8.2-inch ground clearance, the SUV offers both comfort and capability.
Toyota has also taken strides to improve the driving experience with a single-speed direct drive transmission and thoughtfully designed controls.
