Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the successful disruption of nine major drug networks in September, leading to the arrest of 16 suspects and the confiscation of massive quantities of narcotics.
At a press conference held at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Anutin, who also serves as Interior Minister, stressed that drug suppression remains a national priority and a critical mission for the Royal Thai Police. He emphasized the need to strengthen enforcement strategies and called for greater international cooperation to combat transnational trafficking.
The government-led operations resulted in the seizure of 18.5 million methamphetamine pills, 1,488 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, and 29 kilograms of ketamine. Raids were conducted in several provinces, including Nakhon Phanom, Saraburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Sawan, and Chiang Rai, where police targeted storage facilities and intercepted vehicles transporting drugs toward Central and Southern Thailand.
In one high-profile case, Metropolitan Police in Suphan Buri dismantled a trafficking ring and arrested a suspect already under surveillance for a separate child abduction case. Along the northeastern border, patrol officers detained groups attempting to smuggle narcotics across the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom and Bueng Kan.
According to official figures, between October 2024 and September 2025, the Royal Thai Police investigated 265,446 drug-related cases, resulting in over 265,000 arrests. Authorities confiscated more than 1 billion methamphetamine pills, 51,916 kilograms of crystal meth, 6,031 kilograms of ketamine, and 11,294 kilograms of heroin.
Thailand has long been a key transit point for synthetic drugs trafficked from the Golden Triangle region. Authorities have intensified efforts to dismantle organized networks, particularly those supplying entertainment districts. In May, Bangkok police arrested four suspects linked to nightclub drug distribution, uncovering narcotics disguised as cartoon-shaped tablets and infused into e-cigarettes.
Officials say these recent operations highlight Thailand’s determination to disrupt urban and cross-border drug activity while safeguarding public safety.
