The Government of Kenya, collaborating with the African Union Commission (AUC), announced to host the 2026 Africa Urban Forum (AUF), which is set to be held from April 8 - 10, 2026, at the Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi, Kenya.

The forum would be held under the theme “Adequate Housing for All: Advancing Socio-economic and Environmental Transformation towards the Realization of Agenda 2063.”

The high-level collaboration is expected to support the state and government of the entire African continent, including city mayors, governors, ministers, urban planners, private-sector leaders, development partners, civil society organizations, and others, in explaining the evolution of Africa's urban landscape.

AUF2 would locate the critical time for the continent of Africa, as the nation progresses to an increasingly rapid rate of urban population, internationally. In 2050, almost two-thirds of the population of Africa would be planning to reside in urban areas, emphasizing the important role of sustainable housing, resilient infrastructure, climate-conscious arrangements, and more economic opportunities.

Alice Wahome, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, said Kenya is honored to host the continental conference and promote exchange on the urban future of Africa.

“We are honored to host Africa and the world in Nairobi for AUF2. As African cities expand rapidly, we must reimagine housing as a driver of economic opportunity, innovation, and environmental sustainability,” said Wahome. “This Forum provides a unique platform to accelerate practical solutions and partnerships that will transform urban living for millions of Africans.”

The forum is developed to help the suggestion of Agenda 2063: “The Africa We Want, the African Union’s long-term development blueprint aimed at achieving inclusive growth and sustainable development across the continent. AUF2 will also contribute to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda through strengthened partnerships and knowledge sharing.”

Dr. Mary Mbole Kariuki, the African Union Representative in Kenya, highlighted the relevance of creating strong and maintainable cities around Africa.

“The next frontier for Africa lies in building cities that are both green and resilient — cities capable of withstanding climate shocks while unlocking economic opportunities for their citizens,” said Kariuki. “AUF2 will provide a continental platform to deepen policy coherence, mobilize partnerships, and scale transformative investments in sustainable housing, infrastructure, and urban services.”

Discussions during the event would concentrate on inexpensive housing delivery, town planning, climate-resilient foundation, innovating the financial model, smart city technologies, and comprehensive resilient validation.

The event would give the program to present African-led urban solutions and motivate collaboration between administration, advancement institutions, and the private sector.

As the venue, Nairobi would continue to strengthen its role as a global center for the development of urban areas, and the United Nations Human Settlements Program would continue to support this event, along with UN-Habitat and other international organizations in Kenya’s capital.

According to Financial Fortune, “expected participants and partners include development finance institutions, regional economic communities, private sector innovators, and international development partners committed to promoting sustainable urbanisation across Africa.”

A major consequence of AUF2 would be the declaration of Nairobi, which could most likely be a continental roadmap for sustainable urban development and resilience, Africa’s voice in global urban dialogue.

Kenya explained that the organization for the event has been completed in gathering together with the African Union Commission and other foundations, as the country is ready to bring participants, stakeholders, and media news from all around the world to the City of Nairobi.
